Moyne Abbey from a height
13th June 2014
This picture was taken last week in Moyne Abbey. The widest lens in my camera bag is a 24mm. I am sure you will be aware that a wide angle lens distorts building terrible. To get this picture I am standing in a corner of the abbey unable to go back any further, in order to get the tower into the picture I had no option but to tilt the camera up, that just makes the distortion worse. So I decided to try raising the camera as high as I could. So I put it on a tripod extend to 6feet and then using the self timer to fire the camera I raised the camera over my head, so the camera is now about 12 feet off the floor. Of course this took several attempts some pictures included the tower and some did not! But after about half a dozen attempts I landed one! The distortion is still present but is not so pronounced, and I think the image does have an interesting perspective.
